Antonio (Enrico Lo Verso), a young carabiniere officer, is charged with escorting the two to a children's home. However, upon arrival, he discovers that they will not be admitted because of Rosetta's dubious past.

Hannah Jessop (Henrietta Crosman) is a widow struggling to maintain her farm in Three Cedars, Arkansas. She is troubled by her son Jim (Norman Foster), who yearns to escape from the daily toil by either enlisting in the army or marrying his sweetheart, Mary Saunders (Marian Nixon). When Jim defies his mother and declares his love for Mary, Hannah separates them by enlisting Jim in the service, and having him sent to fight in World War I.

In his definitive 2001 biography Searching for John Ford, Joseph McBride calls Pilgrimage (1933) the director's "first great film." It bears the traits that would come to characterize his later masterpieces: an examination of heroism and patriotism, a sense of melancholia and loss, a tendency toward rowdy comedy, and moments of breathtaking visual grace. Yet the film has been rarely screened in the decades since its release, probably due to its lack of stars and the fact that it lies outside the genres usually associated with Ford's career.

What would she say if he declared himself? Through Bruno, Franck meets Manie, a barmaid who deals hash. They begin an affair. Are they in love? They joke about marriage. As the women hold back, the men must make decisions.

Castella est un chef d'entreprise peu porté sur la culture. Pourtant, un soir, en allant par obligation assister à une représentation de "Bérénice", il tombe en adoration du texte et de l'actrice principale, Clara. Par une coïncidence, celle-ci va lui donner des cours d'anglais, nécessaires à son travail. Castella tente de s'intégrer à ce milieu artistique mais sans grand succès. On ne bouscule pas ainsi les cadres de références et les barrières culturelles sans faire d'histoires.

Sostanzialmente non riuscito, quest'apologo sull'ingiustizia e sulla libertà è, comunque, interessante. Girato nel 1952, uscito nel 1954 dopo essere stato manipolato dai produttori Ponti e De Laurentiis. Alcune sequenze girate da M. Monicelli.

La naïveté, l'inexpérience et la timidité les rapprochent alors que tout les oppose par ailleurs.

Il restera à Nantes si Lola accepte de vivre avec lui. Mais Lola aime toujours Michel. Même si, un soir, elle se donne à Frankie, un matelot américain, parce qu'il ressemble à Michel. Lola fait croire à Roland qu'elle part le lendemain pour l'Amérique avec Frankie, puis elle lui avoue la vérité : elle lui avait menti pour qu'il ne se sacrifie pas pour elle. King has a barely concealed incestuous attachment to his sister, and he sometimes uses her to lure victims into his gang's clutches. King and his cronies attack Simon, take his money, and leave him stranded, where he's eventually found by a pair of military security men.Simon is brought to the home of Bernard (Alexander Knox), a scientist working on a secret project for the government, and his girlfriend Freya (Viveca Lindfors), a sculptor. Joan eventually tracks Simon down in hopes of winning his forgiveness, but another run-in with King causes Simon and Joan to discover a cave that holds a terrible secret: a group of strange, cold-blooded children who were the products of one of Bernard's experiments gone wrong. The children were genetically engineered to survive a nuclear war, and, as a result, they are radioactive enough to kill anyone who comes in close contact with them. The first part of Rosselini's neorealist war trilogy, Roma città aperta is universally acknowledged as a masterpiece, a film that virtually symbolizes the whole Neorealist film movement. Greeted coldly in Italy, the film was an immediate success abroad, winning the top award at the Cannes Film Festival in 1946; even today, the death scene of Pina- played by Anna Magnani - remains etched in people's minds. With a screenplay by Rossellini, Sergio Amidei, Federico Fellini and Celeste Negarville, the film is based on the true story of Don Luigi Morosini, tortured and killed by the Nazis for his collaboration with the Italian Resistance. In the Rome of 1943 and 1944, the stories of a number of people all involved in the anti-Nazi Resistance movement become inextricably entwined.

En La mujer crucificada la joven Yukiko, mujer moderna y acostumbrada a vivir en la gran ciudad, se traslada a vivir junto con su madre en el burdel regentado por ésta. Yukiko se encuentra sumida en una profunda depresión tras un fracaso amoroso propiciado por los prejuicios de su novio al conocer la profesión de la madre de la joven y un posterior intento de suicidio por parte de ésta. Yukiko no admite la actividad desarrollada por su madre y si siente avergonzada lo que produce continuos enfrentamientos con su madre.

Sin embargo, Yukiko, conocerá al médico que trata a las prostitutas con el que iniciará una relación de amistad sin saber que al mismo tiempo vive un romance con su madre. Pronto la joven se enamorará del joven doctor y, al mismo tiempo, entrará en contacto con las geishas llegando a apreciarlas y convirtiéndose en defensora de las mismas.

Mizoguchi nos ofrece una visión humana del mundo de la prostitución evitando en todo momento emitir algún juicio moral sobre la profesión de estas mujeres, incluso sugiere que son muchos los tipos de prostitución y quizás más criticables que aquél en el que una mujer vende su cuerpo como sucede con la actitud del médico del burdel, capaz de mantener una relación con la madre de Yukiko por puro interés al tiempo que inicia una nueva relación con la protagonista. En este punto asistimos, como en la mayor parte de la obra del director japonés, a una clara contraposición entre los personajes femeninos y los masculinos caracterizando a las mujeres como personajes de fuertes convicciones y firmes principios frente a los hombres como personajes de menor integridad y de caracter maleable. A Woman of Rumor

Uwasa no onna makes an interesting and logical companion piece to Mizoguchi's Gion bayashi of the previous year. Both stories are set in contemporary Kyoto geisha houses and presented exclusively from the viewpoint of the girls working within them, while a newcomer to this world and this particular house is as a main character of both films. The key difference here is that while Gion bayashi's Eiko chose to follow in her late mother's footsteps as a trainee geisha, Uwasa no onna's Yukiko, the daughter of widowed brothel owner Hatsuko, strongly disapproves of her mother's profession and arrives at the house reluctantly following her attempted suicide in Tokyo. On hand to offer help and support is young doctor Matoba, who works for the geisha guild and whom Hatsuko is attempting to set up in a of practise his own. Yukiko initially rejects the doctor's friendliness, but as the two spend more time with each other she starts to open up to him and a bond starts to develop. Hatsuko becomes increasingly frustrated by their developing relationship, and it soon becomes clear that her interest the younger doctor goes a lot further than that of a business partner.

Une femme dont on parle

La rivalité entre Yukiko, étudiante en musique, et sa mère Hatsuko, tenancière d'une maison de prostitution. Elles aiment toutes les deux le même homme, Kenyô, mais c'est la jeunesse de Yukiko qui l'emportera. L'héroïne devient par la force des choses ce qu'elle a haï par dessus-tout, ce qui condamne ses espoirs de bonheur.
